 Elon Musk responds to Indian user, says 'Tesla has great potential to be factory in India'

Tesla Inc. is likely to be launched in the Indian market soon.



The company recently wrote to Indian ministries seeking reduction in import duty on electric vehicles (EVs) to boost sales of its electric cars in India. Now, responding to an Indian YouTuber on Twitter, the company's CEO Elon Musk has said that Tesla "has great potential to factory in India" but on condition that its imported cars succeed in the country first.

In another tweet, Musk can also be seen hoping for "temporary duty relief for electric vehicles" while replying to a tweet by one of his followers. The billionaire said Tesla wants to launch its cars in India soon, but the Indian 'import duty is the highest among any major country in the world!'





The US electric vehicle maker aims to start sales in India this year, according to a letter to ministries and the country's leading think-tank NITI Aayog, suggesting that reducing the federal tax on imports of fully assembled electric cars to 40% is more appropriate Will, the sources suggest.
